The Industry Source magazine announced the winner of their 2008 Best of the Best Contest. Estilo Salon and Day Spa of West Des Moines, Iowa was awarded First Place and named the Best of the Best 08 Salon/Spa of the Year.

Estilo means “style” in Spanish. Estilo Salon and Day Spa has a Spanish feel with a contemporary twist. Estilo has been operating in the Des Moines area for 8 years under the direction of owner Cindy Landa. In October of 2007, the business moved to a completely new location in a mixed-use development called the Village of Ponderosa.

Estilo’s signature organic facials are their most popular spa service and feature all-natural organic skincare products. Their lava shell hot massage is a massage that is performed with real sea shells recycled from the south pacific.

As a salon, Estilo is known for their color work. As a working owner and educator, Landa is able to train her staff and also has connections with some of the best artists in the industry. These colleagues include Luis Alvarez, vice president of Aquage; Eric Fisher, salon and school owner, author, educator and NAHA winner; Dwight Miller, industry leader; and Nicholas French, Matrix Artist and NAHA winner.

Community involvement is a priority for Estilo. They were the first salon to participate in the Big Hair Ball benefit fundraiser for the Des Moines Art Center. Estilo donates hairstyling services for 40 to 60 models participating in the Iowa State University fashion department’s yearly fashion show. They also give to community organization fundraisers frequently.

In 2009, Estilo’s emphasis will be focusing on more events within their new development. This includes help with organizing some winter events in Lakeside terrace, participation in the American Cancer Society Strides for Breast Cancer event in May at the Village of Ponderosa and taking part in the Senior Open Golf Tournament held at Glen Oakes Golf Course. They will participate by giving out brochures, sampling those attending the event and being involved with drawings and prizes.
